kaal shodh

लोकानामन्तकृत् कालः कालोऽन्यः कलनात्मकः ।
स द्विधा स्थूलसूक्ष्मत्वान्मूर्तश्चामूर्त उच्यते ॥

Lokānāmantakṛt kālaḥ kālo'nyaḥ kalanātmakaḥ |
Sa dvidhā sthūlasūkṣmatvānmūrtaścāmūrta ucyate ||

"Time is the destroyer of the worlds; but there is another Time which is of the nature of calculation (Kalanātmakah). This calculable time is of two types: Gross (measurable / Mūrta) and Minute (immeasurable / Amūrta)."

वेदा हि यज्ञार्थमभिप्रवृत्ता कालानुपूर्व्या विहिताश्च यज्ञाः ।
तस्मादिदं कालविधानशास्त्रं यो ज्योतिषं वेद स वेद यज्ञान् ॥

Vedā hi yajñārtham abhipravṛttāḥ kālānupūrvyā vihitāśca yajñāḥ |
Tasmādidam kālavidhānaśāstram yo jyotiṣam veda sa veda yajñān ||

"The Vedas have been revealed for the purpose of performing sacrifices (Yajnas), and these sacrifices are strictly dependent upon the correct sequence of time. Therefore, only the one who knows this science of time calculation (Kaalavidhanashastram), which is Jyotisha, truly understands the sacrifices."

द्वादशारं नहि तज्जराय वर्वर्ति चक्रं परि द्यामृतस्य ।
आ पुत्रा अग्ने मिथुनासो अत्र सप्त शतानि विंशतिश्च तस्थुः ॥

Dvādaśāraṃ nahi tajjarāya varvarti cakraṃ pari dyāmṛtasya |
Ā putrā agne mithunāso atra sapta śatāni viṃśatiśca tasthuḥ ||

"The twelve-spoked wheel of Time revolves around the heavens and never ages. Oh Agni, upon this wheel stand 720 children in pairs."
